I Love My Frizzy Hair After My First Brazilian Blowout

I know you've all been asking "What is a Brazilian Blowout" since I posted this last week. Well let me tell you....

So last week I went and hung out with my darling stylist Makelle Pratt at Cultures Salon in Clearfield. She told me about this new thing (new to me at least) called a Brazilian Blowout. She told me I was the prefect candidate for this since my hair has natural FRIZZ to it (use to be curl, but that's another story). I almost always have to style my hair with heat every day or it just looks bad. So I typically use a 2" curling iron and don't even try the straightener because it takes way longer. She Assured me that it would relax my natural frizz and soften my texture.... and she wasn't lying... I LOVE IT!!
Left - is after first wash at Cultures. Right - just after finishing....sooo happy!

As for the process it's simple....Makelle washed and washed my hair until it was squeeky clean. She then applied the Brizilian Blowout treatment to all the the strands of my hair...similar to having color added. She then blow dried it out and then back to the sink to wash it again. I LOVE HAVING MY HAIR WASHED so I was in heaven. And Makelle is the ONLY stylist I've ever gone to that does the "best" head massage on the planet! After that she dried my hair again and then used the flat iron to finish the treatment. She asked if I wanted it curly like I do it or straight...I opted for the most drastic for me and went straight.

I cannot even begin to tell you how different my hair feels to run my fingers through it. It's like it is someone else's hair and I love it!! I could not believe how it made my color POP like never before (I had it colored a week prior). She told me the treatment would help my color last longer which I typically notice fading a week or two later. I was so thrilled to find out the treatment would last up to 12 weeks if I used their shampoo and conditioner. So just to show you the difference... the photo on the left is how my hair looks after being washed and dried. No matter what brush I use, etc I get this love frizz look. And this is also how my hair looks in humidity (like Chicago in July). So of course I cannot wash and dry and go... always requires heat to manage it a bit.
I wanted to blog about this right after, but figured I should be a little skeptical and wait a week before I went all fan girl on having a Brizilian Blowout. So a week later I am just as happy with the end results. I have washed it, curled it and straightened it with ease. What impressed me even more is that I could wake up most days and brush it out and go....I LOVE THAT the most.
I know you probably have more questions so I pulled together some information from the "Brazilian Blowout" Website. They have great before and afters too if you're interested in more info. Be sure to scroll to the bottom to learn about the Split End Treatment my daughter is getting next week.

Also I've listed the contact information for Makelle below. If you're looking for an amazing stylist and salon I really love Cultures. It's has the relaxed atmosphere of having your hair done at a friends home salon, but without the family drama and a bit of the spoiling only a salon can give you.

Q. Who is the best candidate for the Brazilian Blowout?
A. It has been our experience, that good candidates for the Brazilian Blowout are anyone who has frizzy, damaged or processed hair. We have performed the treatment on every hair type (fine/course/frizzy/curly), as well as hair that has been permed, Japanese straightened and extensions. In doing so, we have found that with proper communication and a well considered application, everyone can benefit from the Brazilian Blowout smoothing treatment.

Q. What kind of look will you get from the Brazilian Blowout?
A. The hair will be left totally frizz-free, shiny, effortlessly manageable and with plenty of body and bounce. There will still be the option to wear hair curly/wavy (depending on the hair type) and the freedom to blow dry hair smooth and straight in a fraction of the time invested prior to receiving the treatment.

Q. Is the Brazilian Blowout going to make my hair straight?
A. If your hair is wavy, the Brazilian Blowout will make your hair appear naturally straight and healthy. If your hair is very curly, it will minimize frizz while enhancing the appearance of the natural wave/curl. If you have straight, frizzy hair, this treatment will eliminate frizz and promote radiant shine.

Q. Will my hair lose volume if I receive the Brazilian Blowout?
A. No, your hair will not lose volume as a result of receiving the Brazilian Blowout. Your hair will maintain its natural volume and you will still receive great bend and memory when blow-drying and/or using a curling iron.

Split End Treatment
My daughter already has beautiful hair with very little frizz, however she hates to get her hair cut because they always need to cut off a 2-4 inches because of her split ends. She even has splits up where she pulls her hair up into a bun or pony tail.
So Makelle told me about the Brazillian Blowout Split End treatment. She said it would repair the split ends and result in her only needing to trim about a half inch off. It only costs $15 in addition to the cut and style and we cannot wait. I'll post an update after she has it done.

Your stylist sounds fabulous! There is truly nothing better than having a head massage at the hair salon... I could sit there for hours.
I love what it has done for your hair and the colour really does shine after the treatment. Thanks so much for sharing the process and enlightening me on what a 'Brazilian Blowout' really was!

Your hair looks fabulous! Now I have to find it in my area (PA). My hair is frizzy and curly and I fight with it every day using several different products. It's very frustrating. Thank you for sharing this. Take care, Kim :)

Lori, I started doing the Brazilian Blowout a couple of years ago and I LOVE it! My hair was impossible to control in the muggy southeastern US weather, and now it looks sleek and is so low maintenance! Yours looks fabulous and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
