Inspired by Pinterest: Negative Cards

Watch today's Inspired by Pinterest on My Craft Channel today as I share some fun ideas on making "negative cards". We're not talking about cards with a negative message, we're talking about using the negative space cut out from paper to create some amazing layered card creations. And bonus, it's one of the first times I am featuring one of my largest and most popular Pinterest Boards, "Cards."

Disclaimer: Pinterest is a great place to find inspiration but not all pins lead to blogs. I tried to only pick those ideas that I could find the original creator and give credit to. Please take a moment and check out these great blogs because without them I wouldn't have content to talk about on the new My Craft Channel show Inspired by Pinterest.

If you've never been to Pinterest and would like to check it out, you need an invite to the site to gain access (I don't know why). Just leave me a comment with your email and I'll send you an invite. However, I cannot be responsible for the time you will be spending on Pinterest!!

Favorite Finds: Pinwheels, Bookmarks and Marie Claire Idees Magazine

Pinwheel Card by Laura Pryor

Not only did the colors of Laura's card catch my eye, but the fun pinwheel for sure drew me into finding how I could create them for myself. Not only did I find out, but how fun, there is a simple little die that you can purchase online and create as many fun pinwheel cards as you'd like. Or if you don't mind hand cutting out your own pinwheels, then here's another tutorial that you can print a template.

Page Corner Bookmarks

Love this cute little paper crafting idea and when you see the tutorial on how they were made you'll love them even more. I think I'll make some of these with my daughter, she'd get a kick out of these.

Marie Claire Idees Magazine
My cute friend Jana Eubank showed me these yummy over-sized Marie Claire Idees magazines last time we got together to scrapbook. Although I cannot read most of these french magazines, the beautiful ideas and eye candy throughout these issues made up for that. I'm told you can purchase these at most Barnes & Noble stores in the magazine section. I'm for sure picking me up some soon! Or you can subscribe online and look at back issues I'm told...haven't done that yet...better give it a try now!

My Newest Obsession...Copic Markers, my class, etc

I've been super excited to blog about my experience in my Copic Certification Class a couple Fridays ago, but didn't want to post it until I had something cute to share with what I learned.  So this morning before work I hurried and threw together this quick card and used the hot cocoa mug I'd been coloring on for the past couple days. Not counting my coloring...the card was assembled in about 10 minutes tops.
Supplies Used: Cricut Dot Embossing Folder; Echo Park Paper;
Mug Snag'em Stamp from Imaginisce
Regretfully I only own the Copic markers we received in class and a few I've purchased since then. So I fudged the shading a bit. And you can't tell I used those yummy glitter pens Copic makes (want them in EVERY COLOR...hint, hint)

Now about the class. I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Marianne Walker from Copic through a friend of mine and when I contacted her to come teach a group of my friends from the industry. Although she lives in Oregon she was more then happy to fly down for this class.
L-R Top Row: Bridget Bradley, Tamara Jensen, PC Girl, My Cute Stamper Owner, Tiffani,
Kristine McKay, Shannon Lerner, Margie Romney-Aslett, Jana B-PC, Sue Neal
LR Bottom Row: TC Gal, Jana Eubank, Jen Gallacher, Amy Mitchell, Lori Allred (me),
Alisa Bangeter, Ana Cabrera, Heidi Swapp AND Marianne Walker

Thankfully Shannon from Provo Craft was more than willing to provide us a great classroom area and lunch for the day...wahoo!

Marianne teaching (sorry mid-sentence photo...bad right?)
Now one thing that I flipped over was how awesome of an artist Marianne is and I loved her portfolios. Of course I had to take photos of her manga drawings for my 15 year old benefit. In fact, she told me that over 95% of professional Manga artists in Japan use Copic markers. Not sure how I feel about the idea of having to share with my son (the jury is still out on this one).
(awesome aren't they?)

My favorite part of the class was seeing friends I've known forever, but hardly ever see in person (and we all live so close). I know Alisa and Sue Neal from Paper Crafts magazine. I use to work with Jen Gallacher years ago when I coordinated classes for Making Memories/Memories stores and Ana Cabrera worked at CK when I first got to know her, but recently did the social media for those great Northridge mags. Be sure to check out all of their blogs!

Here's the awesome JanaB from Provo Craft...she's always so fun and the adorable Tamara Jensen. I have the great pleasure of working with her at Imaginisce on projects from time to time...love her style!

And how fun is it that Heidi Swapp could come play with us for the day. She was telling me how guilty she felt for spending a whole day learning how to color (like she needed help)...but that she was so grateful to learn all that we did from this class. She was darling as ever and she really is quite the artist!
I didn't get pictures of everyone there (sorry girls).
Marianne teaching the girls from American Crafts
This was funny...Marianne was showing us how to create a "texture" with the markers and Jana Eubank's sweater.

Here's another moment in the class where you had to wonder, "what were they thinking?" We started coloring things like our wedding rings and watch faces with the markers. Luckily a clorox wipe or hand sanitizer took the markers right off those things. So jokingly we say how funny would be to color someone's hair with a hot pink marker. Of course, Kristine McKay volunteered and Amy colored a cute little strand on each side of her cute head. Honestly, we thought it would come out later....

Well....as you can see the color did not come out, it SPREAD. This photo was taken 5 days later. We still giggle about it and Kristine assured me that her hair dresser was able to fix her cute blonde hair again!

Thanks to everyone that made my day such a fun one! Thanks Provo Craft friends and Marianne too!

Definitely my Newest Obsession and all I have to say now about Copic markers is..... I WANT THEM ALL!!

Blinging it On! i-rock bling on my Cricut Card Creations

I had so much fun playing with my Gypsy & Cricut this weekend. Oh and my yummy i-rock tool and bling from Imaginisce. Here's a couple of elegant cards, but you need to click on them to see the gorgeous detail on them.
The wreath and border were cut from the Cricut Holiday Cakes Cartridge. I couldn't pass blinging them up with my i-rock tool. I also used one of the Cuttlebug Embossing Folders (polka dots) to create the dotted pattern on the black core'dinations cardstock and then sanded off the tops of the dots and edges of the paper to reveal the white core of the paper.
I believe the straight pin with the crystal at the end is from Maya Road and the ribbon from Creative Impressions (but I've had this for a while and it's not marked).
A lot of you have asked me more about the i-rock heat set gem setting tool from Imaginisce and I thought a short video from my friend Erin Bassett would explain it better.

Wait until I show you more of my vinyl ideas using  my Gypsy & Cricut! But tomorrow I'll be featuring some fun things all inspired by Twilight/Eclipse OF COURSE!!

Favorite Finds for Week 20 of 2010

This is going to be short...I'm headed off to a Bloggers Conference and very excited to learn how I can be a better blogger ;)

Cupcake "cupcake" Toppers

I actually thought that these were plastic cupcake toppers until I went to Confessions of a Cookbook Queen blog and saw that she made them from mini reese's peanut butter cups. She shows you how on her blog, so go check it out. This is one I'll be recreating for sure...love it!

Faux Jewelry T-Shirt Tutorial
How fun are these cute shirts...actually the center two are ONSIES...cute huh?? These look complicated thanks to Get Your Craft On blog. She shows you how simple it is to create this same look on any t-shirt (any size). Be sure to read the post before this one too, she explains the product she used to make the faux necklace.

Colorful Inspiration
This darling gift set created by Debbie over at Thinking Inking is amazing! The darling ribbon flower are what made me contact her and ask her if I could share this idea with you all...but her stamping creations are wonderful too. If you want to be inspired, then you should visit/follow her blog! Please check out her blog post to see how she pulled this set together!

Rainbow Cupcakes
So it's been raining (and snowing) around hear lately and I've seen a lot of rainbows in the past couple of weeks and wanted to share some colorful "rainbow" inspired ideas. I loved this idea and I knew my daughter would too...we're very anxious to try these out. Check out the instructions over at Skip to My Lou website.
Rainbow Cake
Here's another "rainbow" inspired idea! Now unlike the cupcakes I think this cake will definitely take you a little more time, but won't you wow whomever you make this for. Check out the video(s) over at Whisk Kid and watch how easy she makes it looks!

Favorite Finds for the 13th Week of 2010

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter, we sure did. However, I notice that as my kids get older our holiday traditions change a bit, but I'm okay with that. This week's post will be short...really busy this week.

Yummy Colored Mini Staplers
I love my scrapbook staplers...I own a mini stapler, I wish I owned the tiny attacher from Tim Holtz and I absolutely love my Stampin Up rotating stapler. But how about these fun little staplers and I think you should have one of each color so you never have to change out the colored staples. These are Zenith Staplers from Germany.

Digital Scrapbook Sale!
I'm a huge fan of "The Ettes" an they're celebrating Fayette's 49th birthday by putting everything on sale for 49% off. Personally I thought was only turning 29, but the discount doesn't sound good enough, so thank heavens I was wrong. I love to use their artwork for invites, sign-up sheets, images for cards...so even if you're not a huge digi scrapbooker, you will want to grab a few of their collections (or more)! Jump over to their online store and click on "Dig-Ette-al Kits" for the best value!!

Whooo Loves this Card?
I downloaded the digital art for this cute owl from Two Peas in a Bucket about a month ago. It use to be a Hero Arts stamp and I'm not a big time stamper, but digital line art...I'm all over that. So I printed it out on cardstock, colored it with my very cool Tombow Markers, added a little Glossy Accents to part of the owl and Ranger Stickles (glitter) to other parts and voila...dang cute card. Oh then I couldn't resist adding a little bling to the card using the new i-rock gem setting tool from Imaginisce.
New Stephenie Meyer Book?
Not sure about this, but wanted to share the news for those of you that didn't know Stephenie is releasing a new book, due out in June! Here's a description: Fans of The Twilight Saga will be enthralled by this riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits. In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.

Cake Pops
I've shown these before, but was hoping by posting about it again that I'll actually give them a try...who couldn't resist these yummy little pops? Crafty Chicks posted exactly how to do these and hopefully inspired more of us to give them a try!
Next week let's shoot for an early week post instead of end of week post!! Thanks to everyone's help and support during this stressful week with Kirk's surgery and work projects....it's very much appreciated!!

I survived another Card Swap!

I love making cards...and sometimes I actually mail them out to people. So about every other month I host a card swap with some very talented friends of mine. I'll take some pictures and post them here next week. Anyway, for some reason I ended up having more people join this last swap then I had spots...so I created a second group and decided I'd make a card for each
group (yes, it's so I get twice as many cards back too). But then a friend couldn't do her card at the last minute and I hate giving people back an extra of their cards, so I decided to make a 3rd set of cards. Good thing too, I get so much better at the design by the third group (wink). Here's my desk the other night...not too bad. But I loved how this card turned out that I decided to give you the "sentiment" sheet and the image I used to create the bracket shape (see below).

Supplies Used: Pattern Paper, Making Memories (green pattern); ribbon, Creative Impressions; Fonts, Fling & Century Gothic.
Click here to download "sentiment" file from 4Share. And here for the bracket image I used (tip cute from acetate and trace pattern after you've printed out sentiment sheet.

Note: I found a small clear stamp in my stash and stamped the flower hanging off the edge of the bracket and then added a mini black brad.
